Day 8: I get by with a little help from my friends

Andrew took the high road and I took the low road

Castro-Urdiales to Laredo

Distance:  19.8 miles; 32 kilometers

Total Ascent: 410 meters

Difficulty: 3

Calories Burned: 3,577

I finally learned how to use my ear plugs last night, and woke up at 2am with complete sensory deprivation.  Apparently an eye-mask and earplugs are too much for me, so I tore them off in a fury and slept the rest of the night with light and sound again.

We set our intention this morning to care for our knees (Andrew) and to hydrate (Candace), and admittedly, we both did an awful job.  We walked some portion of the trail together today, but when it separated between the easy route and the difficult route, we decided to separate (guess which path Andrew chose).

Luckily enough, my new German friend, Lisa, was taking the easy path as well, along with her new Austrian buddy, Martin, so the three of us set off.

We thought the day would be easy with a lot of road walking, but we got a bit lost and walked in circles for a while.  Needless to say, Andrew walked 6 kilometers further than us and arrived at our hotel only 30 minutes later (dude is always making me look badJ).

We had a nice dinner with our new European buddies, and attracted a new friend, Karen, from Denmark as well.

We end the night tonight with some wine and massages, and prepare for another 30 kilometers tomorrow!
