My journey toward motherhood – with a stop in Peru

The importance of taking independent adventures

Cusco, Peru

Hello, my little ones. I’m writing to you today even though you haven’t been born yet. Your daddy and I are trying so hard to bring you into the world right now, and can’t wait to hold you in our arms.

We have been tying to conceive you for more than a year now, and life has been stressful at times. Mommy works in Oakland and has to leave daddy several days a week, and work tends to be pretty stressful on both of us. We love each other more than anything else on the planet and we know that our amazing love will bring you into the world.

But ever since mommy was young, I have travelled by myself to all kinds of interesting places. I like to know that, as a woman, I am able to stand on my own two feet and can survive any challenge. And so I go on independent adventures.

Today, I decided to fly to Cusco, Peru by myself and spend four days trekking along the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu. I’ve wanted to do this for years, but now that I’m preparing my body, mind and heart for you, this is the right time to be here.

I love trying new foods and hearing people speak many different languages, wandering foreign streets and negotiating with local merchants. But most importantly, I love these trips so that I can build a strong relationship with me again.

I am strong. I am independent. I am love. And I am adventure.

I am so proud of these qualities that I hope I will pass on to you, and want you to see my independent adventures as the path that made me the best possible mom for you.

I love you, little ones. And I’ve been preparing for you for a long time. I am in Peru this week for me. But I am also here for you.

We’re ready for you.
