Day 30:  Wakey wakey!  Eggs and bakey!

The beauty of rising with the sun (Candace)

Carballero to Sobrado

Distance: 17.8 miles (28.6 kilometers-we have less than 100km left!)

Total Ascent: 110 meters

Difficulty: 2

Calories Burned: 3,577

I was up and on the path today by 6:15, and I’m so glad that I was able to do it (It wasn’t that hard actually. I couldn’t sleep last night because I dreamt that my plastic sheet and pillow case at our albergue was smothering me. Waking was a welcome relief).

As I set off through rural Galicia, I was able to walk through and then above the rising morning fog. What a relaxing way to start the day. The sun was just poking through, but I was nice and cool like the grass.

As I set off through rural Galicia, I was able to walk through and then above the rising morning fog. What a relaxing way to start the day. The sun was just poking through, but I was nice and cool like the grass.

Surprisingly though, I was surrounded by other pilgrims for this mornings walk.  I’ve done the early morning trek a few times now, and have loved the solitude, but I’m now running into the “touregrino” phenomenon, where gaggles of people show up for the last 120km to interrupt my one on one with nature…how rude!

With less time to myself than I would have liked, I decided to retreat to my headphones and enjoy one of life’s simple pleasures that I have largely gone without for the Camino…music.  Andrew has played some of his tunes in hotel rooms and we did listen to some Beethoven yesterday during the hike, but since I was able to start the day on my own, I got to spend some quality time with my home girls, Missy Elliot, Rihanna and Gwen Stefani, and I danced my way through several Disclosure sets before I realized that I had already been on the road for three hours.  God, have I missed my music!

I kept a good clip today, but as a result, Andrew only caught up with me once we both arrived in Sobrado, and I missed him a ton today.  So our plan is to wake up early together tomorrow and set off for our last 40 km day before Santiago.

The end is in sight, my friends.  And I’m fully prepared to dance my way to the finish line!
